IX VIDEOMINUTE INTERNATIONAL CONTEST

The Area of Cultural Activities of the Dpt. of Cultural and Social Affaires of the University of Zaragoza, with the collaboration of Cinemaremagnum, wants to announce the regulations for the IX Videominute International Contest with the purpose of stimulating creation in the domain of video-creation and animation, according to the following regulations:


REGULATIONS

1.-PARTICIPANTS

The contest is open to videocreators of all nationalities with no age restrictions, individually or in group. Each competitor can submit from 1 to 5 works with the main characteristic that each work presented must last a maximum of 1 minute (60 seconds) including credits. Works lasting more than one minute will be discarded. Works must be unpublished, never performed in public, broadcast and/or awarded a prize in other competitions.
The subject of the works is free, and both fiction and animation works can be submitted.

IMPORTANT: All those words presented in a language different from Spanish, must be subtitled in Spanish or in English.


2.- SUBMISSION OF WORKS

The works can be presented in two ways:

1. Presencial delivery or by postal mail:
Also with two possibilities:

- A) DVD recorded in DVD standard PAL region 2 or universal format (vídeo & audio compressed following -MP2 and AC3 standards respectively- compiled in VOB files).

- B) One AVI with video compressed in any of MP4 formats (Mpeg4, WMV, DivX, Xvid) at PAL size (720 X 576 pixels), stored in DVD or CD.

-Each work will be submitted in one single DVD or CD, in a box or envelope that will include the application form or a copy of it, with all the fields properly filled in. This contest form can be obtained at www.unizar.es/cultura following the path ‘Aula de Cine > Videominuto’ or directly in our office.

2. Through our internet web site:
-Upload one AVI with video compressed in any of MP4 formats (Mpeg4, WMV, DivX, Xvid) at PAL size (720 X 576 pixels), through our web site www.unizar/cultura.

-Enter the section ‘Aula de Cine > Videominuto’ and carefully follow each step. The AVI file cannot exceed 100MB.

-If the videominute contains various different files, please compress and join them into a sigle one using zip or rar files.

- Each competitor can submit a maximum of 5 videominutes.


Videominutes must be sent or presented by 3rd April 2009 (certified by the post office stamp).


3.- DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONTEST

The members of the jury will be selected by the Dpt. of Cultural and Social Affaires of the University of Zaragoza amongst videocreators and experts of national and international prestige. This jury will complete with its experience and opinion the possible omissions or doubts that could arise in the selection process. The jury reserves the right not to award the prizes if no work is deemed to be worthy. The decisions taken by the jury shall be final.

The best 25 works, as a maximum, will be selected to pass to the final and this condition of finalist will be communicated to the respective authors.

Prize-giving and projection of winners will be reported to all those interested and it will be made public through general means of communication.


4.- PRIZES

The winners will be awarded with a diploma and with the following prizes:

- 1st Prize VIDEOMINUTO 2009: 1.500€
- 2nd Prize VIDEOMINUTO 2009: 1.000€
- 3rd. Prize VIDEOMINUTO 2009: 500€





5.- USE OF VIDEOMINUTES

The winners will authorise the University of Zaragoza to record, compile, reproduce and broadcast the presented pieces preserving their rights as creators of their works.

In the different editions, recordings or public performances of the winning works should be mentioned ‘IX Videominute Internacional Contest. University of Zaragoza’.

The organization will not be responsible neither of the eventual damage of the works nor of the rights derived from the materials used for the creation of the videominutes and in this case.

Non selected works will be destroyed.


6.- ACCEPTANCE OF REGULATIONS

The application to take part in and to present works for the competition implies full acceptance of the present regulations.
